Few and Far Between
We've been getting a couple of days of wind each week. Usually nothing very strong but worth the effort even if the forecast is discouraging. Water temperature is in the low 70's so most all days are good beach days. I'm flying out to Massachusetts tomorrow but it will be too cold for me out there - not even going to take my gear. I hope there will be some wind left in May when I get back.

Wind Guru
Windguru is calling for 25 to 30 knot winds Thursday and Friday. That can change but it sure looks good for now.

Windy Wednesday
We got the wind that was forecast and a whole lot more on Wednesday. It was blowing over 30 knots for awhile. A few years ago most of the kiters would wait for the wind to calm down but yesterday everyone was anxious get get out on the water and give it a try. Conditions were brutal but everyone handled it great. I used to dream of days like yesterday but I haven't been kiting much this year and I took it easy. Damn! I hate wasting a chance to go big. Even taking it easy I was getting big floaty jumps but the potential was there for massive jumps. Please wind - give me another chance!
Later the wind came down to the 20 to 25 knot range and stayed there all afternoon. It got crazy out there with a bunch of kiters all staying up close to the point and throwing down trick after trick, practically on top of each other. Almost as much fun to watch as to do.
I didn't have my camera with me so here are a couple of shots that I borrowed from Poulette's Facebook.

Wind?
Not much wind in the forecast. Maybe some next week - Wednesday and Thursday.
Semana Santa has had a surprising slow start but the party should kick into gear this afternoon. We'll see.

We Had Wind, Now......
We had some wind this weekend. Some days were very good. The forecast is looking pretty dismal for the next several days.

Spring Break
Spring is here and Spring Break is here. What we've been missing is good wind. Today should be good, maybe a 15 to 20 knot day. That's what I'm hoping. Tomorrow a little less. Then not much for a while.( Sigh.)
I just checked an old post to see what we used to get for water temperatures. On April 20, 2006 it was 67 degrees (19.5 C.) Right now the chart shows over 73 degrees (23C.) That's six degrees warmer at a month earlier! Crazy!
Not much kite action to take pictures of so I went in search of bikinis.

Maybe Next Weekend
Not much wind last week and even less predicted for this week. Maybe next weekend!

Another Nice Day
The weather has been nice. Maybe too nice. The beach is getting busy already. Lots of people walking past - at least they aren't in the water yet. La Manga is looking better as an option as we keep getting crowded out.

This Week's Wind
The wind for this week has started and may continue until Tuesday of next week! Wednesday was a mellow day but got up to 20 knots for a while. Here is a video of a couple minutes of the action.
We also had a reminder that wearing a board leash and jumping can be dangerous. Othon's younger son tried and ended up going for stitches to fix a gash in his head. Lots of blood. Ouch!

Strong, Nasty Wind
We had two days of strong but gusty winds this week. We used to get that kind of wind often in years past. It didn't stop kiters from getting out and enjoying the nastiness. Water temperature in the bay is around 70 degrees - crazy for this time of year. The wind might start as early as Tuesday of next week and continue for several days, with Thursday looking the strongest. Mellow winds for the weekend.

Cloudy, Rainy
The wind took a break recently to bring us clouds and some rain but the wind may come back on Tuesday and give us a good Wednesday and maybe Thursday. Then the next week is starting to look very good, although the predictions that far out will often change as we get closer to the date.

Back on the Board
I finally got back to kiting after a ten week forced break. That's the longest I've ever gone without kiting since I started doing the sport. It was a nice day. Prediction was for 10 to 15 but we got 15 to 20. Nice!
Several kiters on both side of the point.

Next Weekend
Good wind today and several days this week should be okay. The great news is that next weekend should be warm and reasonably windy. I'll be back on the water for the weekend and I am looking forward to getting out there with all of the great kiters that come out to enjoy one of the greatest sports in one of the greatest spots. I've missed it.

Blowing
Yesterday was predicted strong wind, and it was. Gusts over 30. A bit nasty in the kiddie pool - easier to handle out in La Manga Bay. Today was supposed to be light wind but the cold front that is moving through here is still bringing wind. Another day of gusts over 35 knots. It is trying to rain, but not much yet. Water temperature is rising already. Sixty six degrees in January! I don't think I have ever seen it so warm.
And, just like that - the wind stopped. Sometime around 4:30 the wind changed direction and died at the beach. That's what I meant about nasty. I hope everyone got off the water in time.
It's all good.

Blowing Past the Predictions
The wind has been good out at the kite areas, Algodones and La Manga. Sometimes the predictions say only 10 to 15 knots or less (today 6 to 8, tomorrow 7 to 9) but out at the beach it can be 15 to 20. As long as the prediction says NW or WNW there is a good chance of nice wind. And the low predictions discourage the out of town kiters from making the drive down here so it is not crowded at all.
Lots of times the view of the sea from in town will look almost calm, but just over the hill to the west it is blowing good. Luckily, we have a wind meter we can check online: Glenn's Meter. This meter is located on the coast of Algodones Bay across from where we kite and always measures a little less than what we get in our "sweet spot."
Over the holidays we had some really cold wind blowing but it has mellowed out lately. Normally the water temperature bottoms out at the end of December or first part of January. It has already climbed back up to 63 or 64 degrees.
The windiest part of the season is yet to come. Blow baby, blow.

Great Day at the Beach!
Yesterday was nice. Lots of talented kiters, old friends, new friends and good strong wind. I'm still reduced to being just a spectator but it was fun to be there on the beach. The wind was no where near as cold as it was a couple of weeks ago although the water is still a chilly 63 degrees.

Cold
Cold, gusty, strong. That about sums it up. Except one other thing - fun. I'm not able to get back on the water yet but everyone was having a good time. The holiday sessions are always good for seeing friends that haven't been to the beach in a while.
Forecast for the next few days is for cold water and cold wind blowing too northerly at times. Good days to check out the waves on the La Manga side.

It's Nice to be Back
After being out of town for more than three weeks it was nice to be back on the beach. It'll be awhile before I'm on the water again but I really enjoy the beach, the sun, all the activity, and of course the great bunch of kiters that show up every time the wind blows.
The wind was up and down a bit today. As low as 15 and as high as 25 at times. Not bad. We should have at least two more good days. I wasn't in the water but the temperature chart says it is still 70 degrees - that's crazy.
The tide was really low today and you could see how rocky our area is this year. Makes it rough coming and going from the beach.

Take a Break
I'm still in Tucson but it looks like the wind has been spotty and light, although still lots of kitable days. This week is starting off even lighter but by Thursday the wind should be back and it should stay awhile. I won't be kiting yet but I'm looking forward to hanging out at the beach and watching.
Water temperature chart says it still around 70 degrees. That is at least five degrees warmer than it used to be this time of the year. Last year was warm as well.

Out Of Action
You won't be getting many reports from me for a bit. I am up in Tucson. I had Prostate surgery Monday that left me with an eight inch incision in my stomach. I hope to be back in Mexico as soon as possible but it's too early to predict when.
I still read the wind predictions and it looks like the season is good right now. Most days are moderate northwest winds.
I miss the strong 30 knot winds we used to get all the time up to a few years ago but considering that our spot to hang out and set up and all that is so exposed it is just as well. It's a lot safer too. We would get equipment breakdowns on a regular basis and way to many injuries. Glenn recently had an encounter with the obstructions in front of the Salsa Bar and we should all support his efforts to at least eliminate the steel posts.
Have fun, ride safe. I'll be back soon.

Today?
The wind just keeps blowing. Maybe not today, but who knows?
Yesterday was Julie's first try at load and pop and she was doing great! She's a natural for it.

Bonus Days
The wind keeps blowing. Wind Guru hasn't been promising much but Buoyweather keeps showing a possibility of good wind and we keep getting good wind. It could continue well into next week and more.

Sweet
Tuesday turned out to be the sweetest day. Strong, steady wind all afternoon. Sunset was beautiful - you'll have to take my word for it 'cause I forgot my camera. Wednesday's forecast says it will be 10 to 15 but there is always the chance that we will get a couple more knots if it's a sunny day. Next week is showing some big wind. Tuesday looks awesome. Unfortunately I'm scheduled for a root canal that day. Bummer.
Busy Monday
Monday turned out to be a very nice day.
End of the day and there was still wind and still lots of kites on the water.

A Few Good Days
We had nothing all week but the wind should be with us today, tomorrow and Tuesday. Buoy is saying 18 to 25. Water temperature chart says 79 degrees. Air temperature has cooled off but it still should be close to 80 degrees.
Anybody in town to go play?
Sunday Update: It was a good day. Wind started late and was a bit variable but got better later in the afternoon. Monday and Tuesday are looking as good or better.

See You Next Saturday
Wind started early and blew all day. The early kiters were rewarded with 20+ knots of wind and only a few kiteboards on the water. Later in the day the wind mellowed out and more people showed up, getting a little crowded. Water was nice and warm, still around 80 degrees. A couple of people got nailed by stinging things in the water. Good idea to wear a skin or wetsuit. No wind in forecast until next Saturday.
Lots of rocks close to shore this year.

Have Fun
I am going to Tucson today so of course that means that the wind will blow. Buoy is saying 15 to 20 knots both today and tomorrow.

Early Wind
The wind came up early today, really early. Before 10am. It mellowed out in the afternoon but I just checked Glen's meter and it is saying 20 mph at 5:15pm. As you can see in the photo below it was a quiet day on the water, perfect for beginners.
Meli & Lorenia, where are you?

Forecasts?
After a week of wind weaker than the forecast we had a good blow when the forecast said 10 to 13. It was blowing 20 knots for a while Saturday and it was just a beautiful day at the beach. Buoy Weather is saying 8 to 11 knots for today, but who knows? The week coming up doesn't look too good.

Ten to Fifteen Knots
We've been getting a steady diet of around 10 to 15 knots. It's not what we are accustomed to here but it's okay. The water is still warm, low 80's, and the surface is flat. Plus, these are just great days to be out on the beach. If you come out to kite it is best to bring a 12M or bigger, although I was out on my 9M yesterday.

Consistent Winds
We are getting northwest winds just about every afternoon. The only problem is that most days it has been light, often staying below 15 knots. 12M kites have been doing well. It looks like this will continue all week, possibly blowing a little harder after the weekend.
The warm water has been great, and most days there are only a few kites out on the water.
ATV's have been a problem and there are still areas of lots of trash left from a storm a month ago.

This week, starting today, we are looking at a possibility of 15 knot winds most any day. Especially today, tomorrow and then again Friday.

Good Winds and Big Tides
With that big moon out there the high tides have been the highest I've seen here.
AND.....The wind is back. The next few days will be somewhere between good and great. Windguru is calling for west to northwest winds and Buoy Weather is saying stuff like WNW 15 to 20 knots. Starting Thursday. Buoy has been pretty accurate.

Start of the Season?
Northwest wind today. Not a lot but enough to get out there and play, probably 12 to 15 knots. Tomorrow may be the same. Thursday and Friday are looking better, maybe 20 or more knots. This will make a good week and may be the start of something. Hope so!

Great Day at Nahant
Nahant is a beach in Lynn, Massachusetts. I'm in the area visiting my parents. A strong weather front was predicted to pass through the area so I went out a bit before it was due. Wind was gusty. But the gusts were beautiful. I could relax between gusts and then be ready when they came. I'm using a 127cm board with big fins that is so easy to dig in, let go, and boost straight up. And real floaty. I would just hang there and then land nice and soft.
Lots of room.
The beach is more than a mile long and there was never more than four kites on the water.
The weather passed by, a bit north of the beach. I could see the lightening but didn't think much about it. Later I saw in the news that two women were struck by lightening at a beach north of where I was. They are not expected to survive. Things can change so fast.
